SOP For Handling Of Material Spillage In Store

Standard operating procedure for handling of materials spillage in store.

1.0 Purpose

The purpose of this SOP is to develop a standard procedure for handling the material spillage in store.

2.0 Scope

This SOP is applicable for any handling of any type of spillage in the raw material store department.

3.0 Responsibility

3.1 Store officer is responsible for implementation of this SOP.

3.2 The Store head  is responsible for ensuring the implementation of the current SOP.

3.3 Q.A. Officer monitors the compliance of this SOP.

4.0 Procedure

4.1 Solid Material Spillage 

4.1.1 If spillage of any material occurs in a raw material store the shore assistant shall immediately remove the surrounding materials to prevent cross contamination.

4.1.2 The store assistant shall intimate the store officer regarding spillage & store officer shall intimate QA about the incident.

4.1.3 First of all, the store assistant shall remove the damaged container/polythene bag in the presence of the store & QA officer after wearing proper PPEs.

4.1.4 The remaining product (if intact) from damaged container/polythene bag shall be shifted to new cleaned container/polythene bag and properly sealed.

4.1.5 Remove the spilled material by using a spillage handling kit & weight its quantity.

4.1.6 Clean the floor as per cleaning SOP.

4.1.7 Store officer shall deduct this quantity from SAP/manual system after QA approval & update new quantity with justified remarks.

4.1.8 Waste the spilled material as per SOP in the presence of QA.

4.1.9 Investigation shall be done for spillage & generate CAPA to prevent its occurrence in future.

4.2 Solvent Spillage 

4.2.1 In case of spillage/leakage of solvent drum/container immediately ensure proper ventilation.

4.2.2 Remove all the nearby material for safety & protection.

4.2.3 Inform QA for this incident. 

4.2.4 Transfer the solvent from the spilled drum container to the new cleaned drum/container.

4.2.5 Remove the spilled solvent by using a spillage handling kit after wearing proper PPEs.

4.2.6 Note the quantity of rejected solvent & deduct its value from SAP/manual system after QA approval.

4.2.7 Destroy the spilled solvent as per SOP & clean the floor as per standard cleaning procedure.
